Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Houston Rockets and Head Coach, Ime Udoka, have agreed to a multi year contract extension.
Charania announced on the Pat McAfee Show earlier today. While the specific details of the contract are yet to be announced, the deal makes Udoka a top paid coach in the NBA. Charania quoted it as “an eight figure deal annually.”
Udoka took the Boston Celtics to the NBA Finals in 2022. After an off-the-court incident, Udoka was picked up by the Houston Rockets in 2023. In his two seasons with the team he has brought Houston to a 93-71 record. This includes a 52 win season last year that saw the Rockets execed many analysts expectations and become the two seed in a loaded Western Conference.
Udoka was reportedly acquiring interest from the New York Knicks on what would have been a “lucrative” deal. Ultimately he lands back in Houston for the foreseeable future.
Houston is expected to be major players during the 2025 NBA off-season, one that is projected to be a wild ride.
