Despite a late rally, the Boston Red Sox dismantled the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 18 to 7. The team kept the momentum coming off the extra-inning walk-off from 2 hours before to tear the Cardinals apart.

In his MLB debut, pitcher Hunter Dobbins put up 5 strikeouts with a 3.6 ERA in 5 innings. 63 of his 93 pitches were called a strike, including 14 whiffs.

Dobbins was certainly helped by the Red Sox bats as he enjoyed a heavy cushion from the 2nd inning on. Always managing to find grass when at the plate, hitting into the defensive gaps, and piling guys on base. St. Louis’s pitching crew saw ERAs of 11.25 out of starting pitcher Miles Mikolas, 13.50 from relief pitcher John King, and an ungodly 21 from Gordon Garceffo. Boston went a combined 22 for 46 at the plate, headlined by Rafael Devers and Alex Bregman. Devers batted a perfect 1.00 with 4 hits and 3 RBIs. Bregman went 4 for 5 while bringing in 6 RBIs and the Red Sox’s lone home run.

The team defense continued to show significant improvement from last season. Including a missile from Wilyer Abreu to Bregman, shutting down the potentially dangerous situation with runners in the corners in the third.

The Red Sox have swept the series against St. Louis and are looking to keep this momentum going as the Blue Jays arrive in Fenway tomorrow at 6:45 pm.
